A Grand Old Lady

I created this image on a textured coquille board with black Prismacolor pencil.

So many of the photos and images we see these days -- from news reporters to Lara Croft -- all center on the young and beautiful. Too often the incredible beauty of age and experience are ignored. In this picture, I was trying to convey the dignity, majesty and beauty of a being who has lived her life, fought her battles, and is at peace with herself.

I certainly hope that when I get older I look as good...although I don't think I'll look quite the same...!
