This picture is for a Pern fan story titled "Wheels" by Deborah Brown. It was published in the Harper Beat, a club newsletter and fanzine published quarterly by Fort Weyr.

In the story, the danger of Threadfall is over for the dragonriders, and the young Traveller T'han must decide what he will do for the rest of his life.

Instead of trying to illustrate a moment from the story, I tried to help tell the story with the illustration without giving too much away. This kind of illustration can help interest a reader in a story just as well as any "action shot".

This illustration was done with both brush and pen and ink, and it took forever. (Hey Deb, pleeease give your next character blonde hair! Even light brown will do! Just [whimper] not black!!!)
